Support Workers — Casual & Part Time
Locations: Melbourne (inner, north, east, south-east, west) and regional Victoria · Type: Casual and part time · Pay: SCHADS Award Level 2, plus casual loading and penalty rates
About the role
What the work involves
You will work one-to-one with participants in their homes and out in the community, supporting them to live independently and do the things that matter to them.
Wherever possible we match you with participants near where you live, and with hours that suit your availability — including mornings, evenings, weekends, sleepovers and active nights.
Day to day you will be
- Assisting with daily living — meals, light domestic tasks, shopping and appointments
- Providing personal care including hygiene, grooming, dressing and mobility support
- Supporting community access — outings, recreation, sport, education, employment and volunteering
- Building capacity and independence in line with each participant’s NDIS goals
- Providing transport in your own vehicle or the participant’s vehicle where required
- Medication prompting in line with plans and training
- Writing accurate, timely case notes and reporting incidents or changes in need
- Working respectfully alongside families, carers, allied health professionals and support coordinators
What you’ll bring

- Commitment to participant choice, dignity, privacy and safety
- Flexible availability across weekdays, evenings and/or weekends
- Physical capacity for transfers and manual handling
Nice to have
- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services, Aged Care or Mental Health
- Experience with autism, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, physical disability, complex behaviours or mental health
- Manual handling, epilepsy, PEG feeding, catheter care or positive behaviour support training
- Bilingual skills or lived experience of disability
- Nursing, allied health and human services students are strongly encouraged to apply

Checks and clearances
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (Victoria) — current clearance, or willingness to apply immediately
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module — “Quality, Safety and You”, free online
- Working with Children Check, or willing to obtain
- Current First Aid and CPR, or willing to obtain
Practical requirements
- Current Australian driver’s licence
- Comprehensively insured, roadworthy vehicle
- The right to work in Australia
- Two contactable professional references
- A smartphone for rosters and shift notes
About the NDIS Worker Screening Check
In Victoria you cannot start in a risk-assessed role before your clearance comes through — not while waiting, not provisionally. The check is applied for through Service Victoria. Your employer then has 30 days to verify the application, and assessment usually takes up to about three weeks from that verification.

Questions from applicants
Yes — apply now. You will need a clearance before your first shift because Victoria applies a strict no-clearance-no-start rule, but we will guide you through the Service Victoria application as part of onboarding. Assessment usually takes around three weeks after your employer verifies the application, so the sooner you start it the sooner you can work.
Not necessarily. A Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or Community Services helps, but we also hire people with relevant life experience, and nursing, allied health and human services students. Reliability and the right attitude matter more than a certificate.
For most shifts, yes — a current licence and a comprehensively insured, roadworthy vehicle. Some shifts do not involve transport, so tell us your situation and we will be honest about what we can offer you.
That depends on your availability, your location and your flexibility. People who can work mornings, evenings and weekends, and who live near where support is needed, get the most consistent hours. We will not promise you a number we cannot deliver.
