Capacity building
Support coordination
A plan is only worth what you manage to use. Our coordinators help you turn funding into actual supports — and step in when something is not working.
What a coordinator does
Someone in your corner who knows the system
The NDIS is navigable once you know how it works. Most people are handed a plan and left to work that out alone, at exactly the moment they have least capacity to do it.
A support coordinator does the legwork: reads your plan properly, finds providers who actually have capacity, sets up the agreements, tracks your spending, and chases things that stall.
We can help you
- Understand what each budget in your plan can be used for
- Find and compare providers, with real options
- Set up service agreements and service bookings
- Track spending so you do not underspend or run out
- Coordinate between therapists, doctors and support workers
- Resolve problems with a provider
- Connect with mainstream and community services
- Build your own capacity to manage supports over time
- Prepare evidence for your plan reassessment
- Plan for and respond to a crisis
The three levels
Which level is in your plan?
| Level | What it is | Typically suits |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Support Connection | Short-term help to connect with providers and community supports and get your plan moving. | People with a straightforward plan who mainly need a hand getting started. |
| 2. Support Coordination | Ongoing help to design, set up and manage a mix of supports, and to build your own skills in doing so. | Most participants with multiple providers or changing needs. |
| 3. Specialist Support Coordination | Time-limited, higher-intensity coordination led by an appropriately qualified practitioner, focused on reducing barriers and managing risk. | People facing significant risk, complex health or housing instability. |
Your plan will name the level you have been funded for. If you are not sure, send it to us and we will tell you.
Being straight with you
How we handle conflict of interest
Soda Care delivers both support coordination and direct supports. That creates an obvious incentive problem, and pretending otherwise would not be honest.
So we make it explicit. If you use us for coordination, your coordinator will always give you at least two genuine alternatives to any Soda Care service, in writing, and record which you chose and why. Your coordinator’s performance is never measured on how much Soda Care work they generate.
And if you would prefer a coordinator with no connection to us at all, say so — we will help you find a good one.
For support coordinators referring in
If you are a coordinator looking for a support provider, we will give you a straight answer on capacity, timeframes and worker match rather than accepting a referral we cannot service.
- Response to referrals within one business day
- Honest capacity and start-date advice
- Short-notice and complex requests considered
- Clear reporting and progress notes
Common questions
Support coordination helps you understand and use your plan — finding providers, solving problems, building your capacity. Plan management is bookkeeping: paying provider invoices from your plan. They are different budgets and different jobs, and you can have both.
Level 1 Support Connection is short-term help to get connected. Level 2 Support Coordination is the most common — ongoing help to build and manage your supports. Level 3 Specialist Support Coordination is time-limited, higher-intensity help led by a practitioner where there are significant risks or barriers.
You can, and many people do. We are upfront about the conflict of interest that creates: your coordinator will always present you with genuine alternatives to Soda Care’s own services in writing, and we document your choice. If you would rather keep the two separate, we will help you find an independent coordinator.
Tell us anyway. We can point you to free help — your Local Area Coordinator, an Early Childhood partner, or an advocacy service — and help you gather evidence to request coordination at your next plan reassessment.
