SIL, ILO & short term accommodation
Supported independent living & accommodation
A home of your own, with exactly as much support as you need — and no more. We deliver SIL, individual living options and short term accommodation across Victoria.
Options
Four ways living support can work
Supported independent living (SIL)
Support in a shared home with one to three others, funded through your Core budget and rostered to the level you need — from a few hours of daily help to 24/7 support with active overnight staff.
Individual living options (ILO)
For people who want to live alone or with a housemate of their choosing, with a tailored mix of paid support, host arrangements and informal help from people already in their life.
Short term accommodation (STA) & respite
Planned or emergency stays away from home — a break for you and for the people who care for you, with support, meals and activities included.
Overnight support at home
Sleepover or active night shifts in your existing home, for people who need help, medication or reassurance during the night without moving anywhere.
What’s included
Support across the whole day
In a SIL arrangement we support everything that living somewhere involves — not just the personal care tasks.

- Meal planning, cooking and shared shopping
- Household tasks, cleaning and laundry
- Medication support and health appointments
- Budgeting, bills and household decisions
- Getting to work, study, therapy and social activities
- Building and keeping relationships with housemates
- Overnight support — sleepover or active
- Positive behaviour support where authorised
Moving in, step by step
Talk it through
What do you want your home to feel like? Who, if anyone, do you want to live with?
Assess and quote
We build a roster of care with you and prepare the SIL quote and evidence for the NDIA.
Meet and visit
Visits, meals and overnight stays before any decision. Housemates get a say too.
Move and settle
A written transition plan for the first month, reviewed at two weeks and again at six.
Our commitments in a shared home
Living somewhere is different from receiving a service. These apply from day one.
It is your home
Your keys, your rules, your visitors, your food. Staff are guests who work there.
No restrictive practices
We do not use unauthorised restrictive practices. Where any are authorised, they are documented, reported and actively reduced.
A say in who supports you
Residents are involved in choosing and reviewing the staff team, not handed a roster.
Common questions
SIL funds the support you receive in a shared or individual home. SDA funds the building itself — purpose-built housing for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. They are separate budgets and many people have one without the other. Soda Care delivers SIL support; we work alongside SDA providers and landlords.
No. SIL is most commonly delivered in a shared home of two to four people, because sharing overnight support makes it affordable. But SIL support can also be delivered in your own place. We will talk you through the trade-offs honestly.
Always. Nobody should move in with strangers. We arrange visits, shared meals and overnight stays before anyone commits, and we take existing residents’ views seriously too.
STA (often called respite) funds up to 28 days a year away from your usual home, including support, accommodation, meals and activities. Families often use it as a planned break; it can also be used in an emergency or as a trial before considering a permanent move.
SIL sits in your Core Supports budget and is quoted based on a roster of care. The NDIA assesses that quote against your assessed need. We prepare the roster and supporting evidence with you and your support coordinator.
Thinking about a move?
It is a big decision and there is no rush. Start with a conversation about what you want home to look like.
